Hi fellow Arachnids, The footside (sewing edge) is easy to work either side, but some people are more comfortable with one side rather than the other.
There are a number of ways to do picots and I cannot see why it should freak teachers out if the results look good. I do hope however, that you use the appropriate picot techniques for traditional laces.
