There is no problem to rent an automatic car in England. If you don't get
anywhere with the first company, try another.
Double check on the Northampton Museum, it may be closed until next year.
The V&A is a bit of a disaster. You have to contact them ahead of time and
they will get you some of their closed collection. But you can only see a
limited number of pieces. OK if you are doing a thesis on something
specific, but not necessarily what you are wanting to see if you aren't
specific.
One of the best places to go is to The Lace Guild headquarters. Contact
them ahead of time and let them know what you want to see and they will make
things available for you.
