I was amused yesterday when I went into the World Museum in Liverpool with a
friend who wanted to visit the Egyptian gallery there. There were a few
display boards (photos on Flickr) showing coarse to fine linens and some
boards explaining in general about linen manufacture and care. They agreed
with our discussion - finer linen comes from younger plants.

There was also a stunning woven girdle, which I didn’t feel appropriate to
try to photograph as it was one of the display cases where you had to press a
button to light it. The intricacy of the weaving was amazing.
