Hi Karisse,
The clothwork in RetFi is very dense.  Fine cotton thread pairs are added and
removed as needed to achieve the density that the lacemaker wants.  When the
threads are packed in, the clothwork may push up to the gimp making the holes
less obvious. Also, sometimes the pinholes lie outside the gimp which allows
the clothwork to lie closer to the gimp.  And maybe Carmen used very fine pins
that don't leave a large hole when removed?
