Re sunlight yellowing thread

I would have thought that the opposite effect would be had on thread - sunlight on natural fibres in white (cotton or linen) should not yellow threads, but should lighten them - might be a problem with ecru or cream and could be a problem with linen because of drying out rather than colour change.

I am curious about the 'sitting in the sun' to make lace. It is something I have always avoided as I was told that this yellows the thread. I do hope I was given the wrong advice as I would enjoy sitting outside and making lace
on summer days.
