Do other ex-pats feel as isolated as I do? I don't
mean those of you have lived years in their adopted
country but more recent emigrants. Or is it just a
language thing? (I speak just about enough Dutch to do
my shopping but anything more would be a problem).
Sorry, this probably should move to Chat now (and I
think I sound a bit of a wimp!) but I'd be interested
to hear comments.

Dear Hazel,
I can imagine you feel lonely or isolated when it concerns lace. You
said you miss your local lace group, but why try to build a English
speaking lace group in The Netherlands. You are in the western part
of the countries and I am sure, there are a few English speaking
lacemakers in the neighbourhood of Amsterdam. So try to find them via
Arachne or via the LOKK. I teach lace to a Japanese lady who speaks
rather good English.
So be also invited to the lace day in Koog aan de Zaan in November.
The lecture in the morning will be in Dutch, but in the afternoon old
Dutch laces will be made. We will be happy to explain everything to
you also in English. This lace day will be the 3rd of November.
Contact me for the correct address to subscribe for this day privately.
Happy lacing.
