"Agnes wrote: As I have never heard of simon Toustou or his lace pillows,
can someone enlighten me?"
Simon Toustou is a bobbin and pillow maker from Crabtree, Quebec. He makes
a wide selection of bobbins, some with very fine necks. I was worried with
the first ones that I bought that they might break easily. I've broken
others, but never any of Simon's. Brenda Paternoster has a picture of one
of his bobbins on her site.
If you want to see one of his 'big' pillows there is one on Lace Fairy site:
http://www.lacefairy.com/Lace/SimonToustou.html
He makes other pillows without the drawers, large almost flat ones, etc.
etc. and a very nice toolkit in a box that has pin lifter, divider pins, 2
sizes of pin pushers and a lazy susan.
I have one make in Sumac and covered in dark green velvet. The sumac has
greeny grain in the wood. He also used some of the sumac and made me a
toolkit to match the pillow. He also turned me a bobbin, but said he
wouldn't use sumac again for turning as it is very soft. If I use the
bobbin I find that the thread cuts into the wood at the head, so I don't use
it except for heavy gimp thread.
Malvary in Ottawa (the Nation's Capital) where it will be another lovely hot
summer's day with no rain forecast (at last)
