I have a few broken ones too - a bone, a couple of wood, and a glass one or 2. Almost all of them broke at the neck. Don't remember how I broke the bone one, but the glass one was because I think I dropped it. it didn't shatter, but was more of a snap. :-(
Like anything, if treated with respect, they'll be just fine.
