I made some "felt" by purchasing an old wool blanket at a thrift store and putting it in the washer with soap and very hot water, then a cold rinse and into the dryer. It wasn't the best felt, but it shrunk and became much more dense. I cut it into strips and now have a lifetime supply. I made a needlelace pillow with a large metal can for the core and 2" of felt wrapped around it tightly. I sewed it to keep it in place then made a cloth cover, gathered at both ends with drawstrings. Works a treat.
