If you could bear with me for just this short note please - I'd like to
thank everyone who helped 'interpret' the procedure used in the face of the
Vyattski Doll. As I was perusing the technical assistance - and should have
remembered earlier - I realized that the *filling note no. 1* is to be used
inside the doll. This note refers to using one thread of the gimp pair
(woven to the inside edge) to join with one thread from the edge pair and
the weaver pair - and proceeding to make the filling. The use of this gimp
thread might then explain why the filling has such a full appearance - and I
should have had that note printed along side my pillow at the get-go!
I have in fact used the gimp thread in other parts of the inside filling
(leaves); but have also taken a little 'freedom of license' with this piece,
as I am working it with colours and my gimp pair is a colour - I wanted
this, and have used it on the inside leaves - but do not want to use it in
the 'diagonal' face work. So I will use the worker and edge pair (as many
of you have mentioned) to make this part of the filling and have to accept
either smaller 'whirls' or make more passes. ;-) As I'm making the
'picture' in a reduced size (not blown 200% as it was meant to be) I am also
using finer thread and more colours - so not making my job easier. (lol)
But the principle of the movement is the same - and I thank you sincerely
for your help in that regard.
In retrospect - if I had understood the pattern better, and not started in
haste - I might have used two separate threads in the gimp - one of colour
and one white - giving me a choice where needed. Not sure how that would
have worked - but I will pencil a note to consider it if ever working the
pattern again. :o)
If there is any word from Bridget on the process - I will of course be 'all
eyes and ears' and do my best to work the piece true to the Russian
techniques.

I am seeing Bridget tomorrow so if you like I will take the book and ask
her,
then report back. For myself I'd put money on whirlpools, to match the
ones
worked over 6 plaits at her shoulders.
