Thank you Catherine, for that helpful advice.
I am only going to do the final Cordonette with the gold thread. I "chickened
out" of doing the whole thing in metallics!!

I laid the trace thread in crochet cotton, and am doing the fillings with
Guttermans silk thread,(after changing my mind about the thread to use!!) -
and will do the cordonette and any other highlighting with the metallic
thread.

I will remember to tie the metallic thread in the eye I had forgotten about
that little trick. I had not thought of waxing cotton thread. What a good
idea.

Yes, doing NL in the hot weather is hard! But having a deadline for the IOLI
Bulletin is a big 'spur-on' to still keeping going with the needlelace!!! :))
Constant hand wahing, and a fan close by help!!! We are "thinking" of getting
Air conditioning after this extreme weather. (DH like to think things through
- slowly. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! )
BL is not so bad, as the pillow is on a table, not resting in my lap, - but a
small desktop fan Very close by is a big help!! It reached a record 46.4ºC (
about 115ºF) on Saturday before the cool change arrived about 6pm.

My UK Lace Magazine has just arrived, and also the Guild of Needle Laces
magazine - so I have a feast of reading for some nice bedtime reading. We are
so upset by these terrible fires, that I need a nice distraction.

We are safe (obviously!) but we had one fire about 10km (by road) from us, and
we have the water bombing helicopters flying overhead now and again. Looking
at the map of the area, - it is a good thing the wind shifted with the cooler
change on Saturday evening, - else we might have been in a bit of bother later
on.

The death toll is 109 to 111 at the moment, and about 800 homes gone - 2 small
towns wiped off the map, etc. Many families died when trying to flee the
flames, as the roads were blocked by fallen trees, and they could not get past
the obstructions. They just died where they sat. Unimaginable.

What penalty could they give any firebug they catch? I see our Prime Minister
has declared any firebug to be a Mass Murderer. I just hope the judiciary
take it all into account, and don't give out wimpish slaps on the wrist. They
have caught one firebug who set fires a few weeks ago. - He is/was a Volunteer
firefighter, who wanted his brigade to be called out! Can you imagine that?

I have not heard of any lacemakers who have been caught in the fires, - nor
any up north, who are caught in the floods in Queensland.

Thank you all for caring enough to ask about us. In return, we hope you are
all safely surviving your cold, snowey, wet weather.
Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz
