You need enough top thickness around the roller to accept the pins. Any fabric will do around the core (polyester interface-type batting is good) then wrap your wool fabric around that. Wrap it firmly. I would use heavy cotton broadcloth for the cover, rather than the velveteen, but it's your pillow ;)
