Some years ago I saw (or read-can't remember where) a slightly different method for leaves. The weaver thread goes back and forth as usual, but goes twice round each of the outer threads. I tried it, but didn't take to it as I was so used to making my leaves in the traditional way, but I showed it to my students. Some of them, mostly those who specialised in "holly" leaves prefered it as you get a smooth edge quite easily. The edge is also more pronounced, but as it needs fewer weavings the middle can look a little sparse. Personal choice-may be worth a try.
