Ahh, but if you're going to just work straight onto a card straight from the printer or copier, rub a thumb over a bit of it first to make sure it's completely bonded onto the cardstock.
I've had plenty of times where the copier hasn't completely bonded the ink to the paper/card, and it smudges off - not such a big deal if you're not using it for lace (still frustrating if it's a copy for another library or for research), - but it would be an infuriatingly big deal if your whit thread smudged off the black ink and your lace got dirty - and you didn't realize until too late. It happened to me once - with a sampler I think for my proficiency test, and I was able to make a note of it in my working notes, so it wasn't as big a catastrophe as it could've been.
