I have made 2 roller pillows, both over 20 years old. The first I made from directions in Pam Nottingham's book. For the roller I used a section of old broom handle and cut strips from old tweed skirt to wind around it for more than the length of average pin. I then covered the wool with same tightly woven cotton used to cover the rest of the pillow. The 2nd pillow is my travel pillow with very small roller, only about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. I used a dowel, maybe about 3/8 inch, for that and wound the same tweed wool around that. Might have been better to have felted it first, but didn't think of that at the time. Both pillows hold the pins well and with constant use have held up well. The tip to make loop of pricking slightly larger than circumferance of roller works to keep the pin holes at slightly different position for each round helps. Also, it is easier than trying to match pattern to fit roller closely. Louise in Central Virginia
