Having worked in a public library for several years, I know that it's tough
to sometimes get material back from patrons. Sometimes it depends on the
Head Librarian of the branch and what the policy is. I know we had a patron
who kept materials and when threats and fines meant nothing, and did
nothing, then it was time for The Boss to pay a visit with the sheriff.

Interlibrary loan is an option, and yes, some systems/libraries do charge
other libraries for those loans.

Catherine - I would think that there will be a demand for your book in hard
copy (not necessarily hard cover) and maybe digital in the future. It's an
excellent text and reference book, and not everyone has an eReader or access
to an ebook device, so there will be a place for hardcopies.

Whilst you can bookmark sections in eReaders, it's not the same visual cue
as a book with a flag sticking out.

And eReaders just don't have that wonderful new book smell.
