LPS has a nice series of 4 beginners classes that commences in September at
the meeting, after the Fair 'season' is over. Lesson number 1 is the
'bandage' and people can borrow equipment for the first class (but not to
take home), and if they decide it's for them, and they wish to continue,
they are expected to join LPS and acquire their own equipment (we give them
the resources to locate suppliers and/or make their own pillow).

Even though lesson #1 is September, we decided to go to an ongoing/rolling
format, so that a newbie didn't have to wait months for lesson #1 - they
could start with #1 whenever they came to a meeting.

We've had some really good attendance at the first lesson, and some good
retention of some new members (in relation to how many did the first
lesson), and it's been nice to see a lot of new people taking up the craft.

We also have an on-going 'help' table with plenty of willing people to help
someone who might be stuck on a pattern and not yet ready to go to the next
lesson or who's not in the beginners class, but needs some help/advice with
a piece they are working on. I think that part of the mentoring is helping
too.

Cheers,
Helen, Duvall, WA
