Many thanks to all who wrote with suggestions for replacing my lost pattern instructions, especially the links to the author of the pattern! I'm delighted that I can fill the gap in my 'samples' folder, and am pleased to have the suggestions on how to find published patterns.

On the last two Sundays, I have enjoyed making lace at a homestead museum, just near our home. I dress in Edwardian costume, and work beside the local spinners. There has been some sadness in the demonstration days this year, as the beautiful old farm home had to be demolished after the earthquake in September last year - luckily the stables, where the museum is housed, had little damage, and that has since been successfully remedied.

Both Sundays were beautifully fine, and it was very pleasant, sitting under the sycamore trees and making lace - and, of course, introducing bobbin lace to so many people (including the usual number of 'tatting ladies'!). One lady's comment made me think for a minute - she said that she had half a dozen of her *father's* lace bobbins, and would love to learn how to use them! Evidently, her grandmother had taught her father to knit, sew and make lace when he was a child, and a few of the bobbins had been kept. I hope that she will join our small local group of lacemakers, in the near future.

The pricking I was working was for a tape lace butterfly (from "Lace Express"), which I started on the first day and finished at the end of the second day. I haven't been able to sit at my pillow for some months, and it was a pleasure to be able to relax and make lace in such beautiful surroundings... sunshine and shade, music, chatter, and the distant throb of the old machinery being demonstrated...
