Brenda covered all the points I was going to mention, but there's one I would also add in: how much lint does the thread produce?
I've used some quilting threads, like King Tut, and Masterpiece (both by Superior threads maybe?), but I would never in a million years use a 50wt quilting/sewing thread by Star. The lint produced just in a sewing machine is awful, and requires far more frequent cleaning of sewing machines than other brands do. Given that there's a certain amount of 'wear' on the threads (and I've got some Brok 100/2 on the go that's currently showing the odd sign of pilling/depositing lint), I'd be wary about the cottons that are very 'fluffy' as they come off the reel.
