Hello everyone. My name is Ben. I am thefrogman on TWiT Army. If you have
visited the site recently you probably noticed some enhancements to the
theme and functionality. My design partner Mongo and I have been working on
the more aesthetic aspects of laconica. We also tweaked some of the
navigation, added threaded reply dropdowns, and if you click on avatars, you
get the last ten posts from that user without leaving the page. We are
planning to make our code available to the community, but we need a little
time to polish it up a bit. If you want a peek of the unpolished code you
can check out this index listing:

I realize that the TWiT Army theme is a bit propietary so I decided to work
up some more generic mockups for possible themes that would work with our
code. We will have to tweak the CSS a bit, and before we put too much work
into it, I thought I'd see if you guys liked the direction I was heading.

First I created a more Web 2.0 version of Identica. Rounded corners are "in"
and you need to have glossy buttons. Glossy buttons are all the rage.

Next I modified that same theme to be more generic so that anyone can use
it. Here are five color options below.

Green

Brown

Gray

Pink

Teal

I also have a more bold theme I created that I can probably also make in a
variety of colors if the interest is there.

I'm a little burnt out from working on the TWiT Army site, so it may take me
a couple of weeks to get these in easy to install tarball form. I mainly
wanted to introduce myself and let you all in on my evil theming plans.
Aesthetics are important. I know a lot of you code guys tend to think of
that last, but I think this thing is getting to the point where we need to
start considering theming a bit more. Myspace being ugly and successful was
a fluke. They lured people in with glitter graphics and popularity contests.
Modifying the code for our theme was tough on Mongo. We will have some
suggestions that will hopefully make it easier for designers in the future
to do their thing. I think this laconica thing could be big, and I hope to
make it a little prettier. Have a good day everyone.

Ben
