Tangentially, an often voiced desire I hear in my circles (interaction designers, long time web social networking wonks etc) is a "mute" feature for people in your own stream that you'd like to mute temporarily without unsubscribing from them.
i.e.: buddy is suddenly really verbose because he's become really hot for a current affair topic that you have absolutely no interest for. You mute him for the few days where he's likely to be effluvient. This would affect your streams (web/rss) and notices (XMPP, SMS) B.
