The easier laconica is to install, the more likely it will be that developers will install and hack on it. Plus, it makes maintenance easier (auto security updates ftw).
Right now, I'm starting an installation of laconica (following the directions at http://laconi.ca/trac/wiki/Installation), and the first thing I encountered was that some dependencies are not available in my distributions (I use Ubuntu and Gentoo). Missing in Gentoo: XMPPHP php-openid oauth.php markdown.php Missing in Ubuntu (8.10): XMPPHP oauth.php markdown.php It would be awesome if the laconica community could package these dependencies for the major distros, and get the ball rolling for inclusion.
