TWiT Army was brought down by spam tonight. A malicious poster entered the
same horrid message close to 3000 times. The server admins were unavailable
and I felt it was up to me to try and stop it. I ran some scripts that my
coder wrote and was actually able to stop the spammer for a short time. We
closed off new registrations but they must have a found a loophole. In my
efforts, by running these unauthorized scripts on the server, I lost my
access privelages. It's been a long day and nothing seems to have gone
right. I made my choice and was aware that there may be consequences, but I
thought I had to act. I would like to say that I am disappointed in the
shear lack of admin tools in laconica to fight spam like this. I think that
this should become a major priority for this community. I try to follow the
tickets and the mailing list, but I must admit I don't ever really know what
is going on and what is planned. It's all a bit of a jumbled mess to me, but
maybe that is because I'm just a photoshop monkey and not a dev. I don't
know. In any case, I hope I have influenced you to take a closer look at
this problem.

Thanks,
Ben
