Hi, everyone. So, I promised we'd be setting up some new repositories, and now it's done.

Our main repository is going to be on Gitorious:

   http://gitorious.org/projects/laconica/repos/mainline

This repo will be the most stable version of Laconica -- equivalent to what we're running on Identica.

It will include released software, plus any bug patches that we push to identi.ca. This is where our releases will live.

Our development repository is also going to be on Gitorious:

   http://gitorious.org/projects/laconica/repos/dev

This repository has two branches:

   * *0.7.x *- for incremental feature changes and bug fixes to the
0.7.x series of versions. These will be pushed to the mainline
repository and tagged as 0.7.1, 0.7.2, ... on a 2-3 week basis (or
     as needed).
   * *0.8.x* - for further-out development. Stuff from 0.7.x will be
merged to this branch on a regular basis (at least as often as the
     releases).

I hope this is going to clear up some of the problems we've had with visibility of the development process.

Everyone who works for me (Zach, Sarven, Robin) should have accounts on Gitorious. It'd be a great help if other people who want to work on code for Laconica had accounts, too.

For the mainline repo, only me and Zach will have write access. We'll be responsible for pushing out hotpatches and making new releases.

For the dev repo, things will be a little more liberal. Sarven and Robin will be able to write directly, as well as CiaranG and hopefully Gouki. I'd be happy to add more folks to this committer group as they prove some familiarity with the code.

It'd be great if other people who want to contribute use gitorious.org, too. You can push your changes there and make a merge request; it's very handy for tracking what needs to be done.

Thanks,

-Evan

P.S. We're not going to use github.com, so please don't ask. I realize gitorious.org doesn't have as many features, but it's free software so we have a clear path ahead if we need to move from that platform in the future.
