Eric,

We at bleeper.de had similar experience with IE6. It got much better
after adapting the theme/CSS and abandon of some not supported IE6
styles.
Have a look at bleeper.de, if it does load faster than your site, you
might want to check out http://laconi.ca/trac/ticket/1230 and the
bleeper-theme/CSS in the zip-file (
http://bleeper.de/doc-src/bleeper-090303.zip )
