There are a few things very specific to laconi.ca (like the lack of of
HEAD branch, that you explained to me on irc). If you want only
bearded superheroes to be able to contribute please don't document
more. But if you want more people to contribute then clearly
something's missing, and that's not man git

Laconica's development workflow does, in fact, seem to follow a pretty
standard model. If you haven't seen it yet, be certain you have read
Evan's explanation of the repository layout[0]. If it is git itself
that is tripping you up, i.e., by not having a single main
"trunk" (which is not unique to Laconica at all), you really should be
certain you understand how to use the version control tool first.
That said, there are a number of things I would like to see improved
on the Laconi.ca Trac install, and documentation regarding how to use
Git+Gitorious for contributing to development was one of the things I
have wanted to get to but, to date, simply haven't yet. SproutCore's
wiki documentation along the same lines is exemplary[1].
