what says LDAP log? Did the LDAP server start? It should log where it listen. You can see it in netstat: netstat -lnp | grep 636 (or 389) Or some kind of firewall problems? Let's try telnet <ldap host> 636 (and 389). If it doesn't go through then you have to find the connectivity problem.
