A puppetClass directly relates to a puppet module that's been written to manage
something. The typical example is the NTP service, it's pretty much everyone's
"first" puppet module. This module ensure that ntp is installed, enabled, and
running, and provides the default ntp.conf. This puppetClass, called ntp, is
then assigned to a node/host so when puppet runs it ensures ntp is setup as
defined by the class/module.
An environment is a way to slice your site into domains and associated class
with those domains. The default is production but you could have a test
environment you use for testing new classes before rolling them out across your
production environment. See http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/environment.html
I'll send you an ldif of typical entries when I get a chance.
Thanks!
