ok, the function will be renamed in the next release to avoid trouble
with future PHP releases.

Looks like we need the LDAP output to find the source of this problem.

Please activate debug output on your LDAP server. In
/etc/ldap/slapd.conf turn logging on with the line "loglevel 256".
OpenLDAP uses /var/log/syslog for log output.

Alternatively, if you are experienced with networking you can use
wireshark to get the error message from the LDAP server. The operations
error probably contains a more detailed message. Unfortunately, PHP does
not handle the detailed message and LAM cannot display it.
