This is also dependent of which version of the RFC...OpenDJ, which uses 
rfc2307bis, posixGroup is auxiliary. Under, "Module Setting", "Group of 
unique names", have you tried checking "Members are optional"? I dont' 
recall what else this allow but it might get you around this issue.
