Yes, that's the name of my samba4 domain. Taken from this:

https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
where they say:

DNS Domain Name: samdom.example.com (This will also be your realm)
NT4 Domain Name:     samdom

We are a 'sub institute' of main.edu, and our domain is sub.main.edu.

I adjusted the example from the samba docs to our situation:
samdom.example.com -> samba.sub.main.edu

I did some reading and there are many different suggestions on the web,
including the samba.local, or also contrary: saying NOT to use the
.local domain but use a subdomain of your real domain. (which is what I did)

Is it better to use something shorter, like samba4.sub or so?

(I mean apart from the fact that the lam tree view doesn't like longer
base dn's, which I guess is a bug)
