Yes, that's the name of my samba4 domain. Taken from this: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO where they say:
DNS Domain Name: samdom.example.com (This will also be your realm) NT4 Domain Name: samdom We are a 'sub institute' of main.edu, and our domain is sub.main.edu. I adjusted the example from the samba docs to our situation: samdom.example.com -> samba.sub.main.edu I did some reading and there are many different suggestions on the web, including the samba.local, or also contrary: saying NOT to use the .local domain but use a subdomain of your real domain. (which is what I did) Is it better to use something shorter, like samba4.sub or so? (I mean apart from the fact that the lam tree view doesn't like longer base dn's, which I guess is a bug) On 11/20/2013 05:01 PM, Roland Gruber wrote: > Hi Mourik Jan,, > > On 20.11.2013 16:13, mourik jan heupink wrote: >> Just to give a bit more feedback: >> >> I think this problem is related to the 'depth' of the directory base: >> >> does NOT work: DC=samba,DC=sub,DC=main,DC.edu >> DOES work: DC=sub,DC=main,DC.edu >> >> Can you reproduce this..? > > is your Windows domain name samba.sub.main.edu? > > I have a domain name samba4.test and dc=samba4,dc=test works.
