Hi Christian, did you configure the LDAP connection with an "ldaps://" URL or TLS? Active Directory requires password changes over encrypted connections.
If this does not help please provide a screenshot of the self service profile (tab "Layout"). Maybe some other field results in a second attribute change where permissions are missing.
