I had a similar problem with my landing gear hydraulics. That is, the high
pressure side would hold just fine but I had repeated on/off cycling when
gear was in the down position. The problem turned out to be the small O
ring seal at the threaded end of the center rod in a main gear retract
cylinder. Examination of this seal will explain why it is effective in one
direction only.
