Thanks, Bob.  I'm sure you'll understand when I tell you I'm a bit frustrated
at the moment.  The airplane is now on its jack stand. I've absolutely
confirmed that it holds perfectly on the up side.  Initially, I thought it
might be the shuttle valve in the pump, but after flushing the system with
fresh hydraulic fluid and isolating the pump, no cycling.  Moreover, the
cycling in general has stopped.  

I feel like the car owner who goes to the shop and can't replicate the
problem for the mechanic.  So, tomorrow I'll take the plane down and go fly
it.  $10 says the minute I start to taxi it will start again.  Then after
using the appropriate four letter expletive, I'll start isolating the
actuators to see if I can find the culprit.  I appreciate your tip.  ...Byron
