No idea as I don't use Notepad++. jEdit is made
by coders for coders, its features are very rich
and can be expanded by numerous plugins. As for XML specifically,...

jEdit with the XML plugin (and a couple of other
plugins, it'll tell you what to install) can
validate an XML file against a scheme.
