Do you mean *.dic vs. *.dict? That's because we don't use the original plain text hunspell dictionaries, but we export them (usually via 'unmunch') and then compress them to a binary format. > afterwards. I don't experience this problem for German, where I can still add rules without introducing many false alarms. If Spanish has a lot of homophones, like English, I also suggest having a look at http://wiki.languagetool.org/finding-errors-using-n-gram-data for easily adding "rules" (i.e. pairs of words).
