Hi, we have a feature on languagetool.org that lets users suggest words for the spell checking dictionary. If the user clicks on a word marked red, they get the option to suggest it for inclusion in the dictionary. The maintainer regularly fetches all suggestions via an RSS feed, checks them, and then adds them to the spelling.txt file if appropriate and also from time to time reports them to the maintainer of the hunspell dictionary.
This feature is currently only activated for German and Catalan. If you'd like to get feedback from users like this, let me know and I can activate it for your language. The only requirement is that you regularly check the RSS feed and accept the good words. For German, I get about 5-10 suggested words per day, so the amount of work is very low.
