An update. I just booted my Dell d810 with the OpenSolaris 2008.05 live cd and successfully connected to this same wireless network with nwam.
At least that rules out the network as a problem... Searching the net I also found this: http://scottf.wordpress.com/2008/02/02/opensolaris-network-wtf/ My laptop is also an IBM Thinkpad R40 so it seems I am not the only one with issues? Does nwam, wificonfig and dladm log anything that might help me debug the issue?
