the powernow driver reads the acpi tables to get the performance-states for the cpu. your P4-M had two states, maximum performance mode (2ghz), when the laptop is connected to the AC outlet and battery optimized mode (1.2ghz), when powered by a battery.
i don't know if your laptop provides the required p-states via acpi. you can try a reinstall of powernow and look at the messages /var/spool/frkit/powernow/uninstall /var/spool/frkit/powernow/install This message posted from opensolaris.org
