I would recommend that you download the latest OSS source code at: http://developer.opensound.com/sources/testing/oss-v4.0-build1005rc1-src-cddl.tar.bz2
Follow the build instructions and see if the build 1005rc1 works better - we have identified a potential bug in the HDAudio drivers that is addressed in the 1005rc1. Building OSS is straight forward. All you need is Solaris11, Studio 11 or 12 and SUNWgawk.
