HP has been making special efforts to at least try to make their notebooks Linux compatible. As such, you will have better chance running Solaris on HP machines. We don't have much experience with Acer; but the few times we tried (on Linux), we were quite discouraged. Laptop prices continue drop, if you don't have an urgent need, returning your current system and waiting for a cheaper/better one may not be a bad idea. This message posted from opensolaris.org
