Thanks for all of your help. I decided to try out the following advice from Zunbeltz Izaola. This time, though I took a shower while it was installing. Apparently after leaving it long enough, all of the consoles work! Or at least, every so often, it allows you to switch between consoles. In any case, I was able to figure out the problem and continue the install, and am writing this email from my newly installed dapper. I will fill out my laptop testing form later today.
I've filed a bug, I hope it's against the right package.

Once again, thanks for all your help.

I had the same problem with my samsung x05. But during waiting i've
presed "enter" from time to time and the cd-rom started to do its
tipical noise. So i asumed that the instalation was going on (because i
noticed that it hangs when xorg was installing). When the noise of the
cd-rom stoped, i presed enter again and the cd was ejected and the
computer rebooted, and i get a correctly installed dapper.
