For those experiencing Ethernet connectivity issues with the Toshiba Tecra A4, see the wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ToshibaTecraA4 under the 'Restoring Network/USB (Dapper)' for instructions on how to fix the problem. This -may- be applicable in some form to other Toshibas and basically involves updating the BIOS and possibly using a boot option to allow updating to the latest kernel.
