Ultimately the problem is due to the fact that Edgy is currently under heavy development, so there are various aspects of the system which will or will not work depending upon the day of week and how frequently you are updating your system.
If there is behavior on your machine that you find is incorrect the best thing to do is file a bug report on launchpad, by doing this you will insure that the developers who are working on this application or issue will be aware of it.
