Shoot, forgot to mention one thing: I presume that with this setting enabled, I will also be able to get my drive to spin down during periods of inactivity whilst on AC power. To be honest, that's the biggest thing I miss from Windows (I have a really noisy drive and it runs all the time...). So I am strongly inclined to enable this setting, and I believe it should work fine on this machine, given a) behaviour under Windows (once upon a time, a long time ago) and b) the apparent quality of the IBM ACPI implementation and ThinkPads in general. But I apply the precautionary principle myself, and given the dearth of information in this area, I turn to you, good listers/lurkers. Thx, pww
