What you said is right on the money. I uninstalled Cygwin and re-installed it taking only the defaults (except for vim and gvim), and the annoying ntvdm.exe box went away. If I was really industrious, I'd start adding packages to see what's causing it, but.....I'm not. Something needing 16-bit DOS VM??

Googling ntvdm.exe seems to indicate that it's related to a registry
error. This sort of thing is why I hate windows.
