Oh crap, I forgot about this. This is a Flash bug, which is unfortunately also present in swf9, whereby if you call sendAndLoad on a LoadVars object which has no properties, it will force it to go out as a GET request, even if you specify POST method.
The swf9 docs says: method:String<http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/String.html> [read-write] * Language Version : *ActionScript 3.0 * Player Version : *Flash Player 9 Controls whether the HTTP form submission method is a GET or POST operation. Valid values are URLRequestMethod.GET or URLRequestMethod.POST. The default value is URLRequestMethod.GET. *Note*: If the referenced form has no body, Flash Player automatically uses a GET operaton even if the method is set to URLRequestMethod.POST. [Added note: 12/19/07] Implementation public function get method():String<http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/String.html> public function set method(value:String<http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/String.html> ):void<http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/specialTypes.html#void> Throws ArgumentError<http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/ArgumentError.html> — If the value parameter is not URLRequestMethod.GET or URLRequestMethod.POST.
