That didn't work.  I had to make it not be required.

I put it back on the default screen, because that is the screen that is used for general edit of issues, so you want to have all fields available there. It does not appear on the new issue screen, but if you make it required, it seems you can't create a new issue, even though the field cannot be entered there.

I can't see any way to make the field only be required when you resolve. So for now, we just have to pay attention.
