Our team are considering Laszlo for an Internet dashboard-type application.  Laszlo has come out ahead of the evaluation on all criteria accept the issue that we need to be able to embed a wide range of widgets which may be _javascript_, applets, Flash.  We are assuming that the future Laszlo->DHTML compilation will provide more flexibility but a number of key questions remain before we feel comfortable choosing Laszlo - any help greatly appreciated!

  • How firm are the plans to release Laszlo->DHTML compilation.  When is a fully stable release realistically expected?
  • Will all the Laszlo language be supported in DHTML compilation including all animations etc.?
  • Will the performance and look-and-feel be equal to the Flash version?  Can we expect full portability between IE and FireFox for the DHTML version?
  • Will it be possible to embed all non-Laszlo browser content in windows within Laszlo applications - applets, flash, _javascript_/DHTML etc.?
  • Will these non-Laszlo components be able to communicate with the Laszlo objects and with the server services?
  • What Laszlo command will be used for this embedding?
  • Code caching: We are planning a large Laszlo applications with many subcomponents that may change from time to time.  Is there a solution to ensure that the browser will (a) download code for different components as needed and not all in once in order that application startup time will be acceptable (b) cache code so that every new component will run instantly the second time it is run (c) update code for new components automatically when a newer version is on the server?  What is the solution for this and how does it work?  Is there a difference between DHTML and Flash Laszlo in this respect?
Thanks so much for any help
