This is my perspective as an outsider, someone inside laszlosystems
might have different answers:
1. Status of Laszlo IDE - has development stopped on this?
Development is paused. If something breaks, they will issue a patch to
keep it working, but no new development is happening. I think laszlo
systems is really hoping that someone from the Open Source community
will take this on.
2. Rails for Laszlo - this also doesn't seem active, with some broken links.
Anyone know status?
I don't know anything, haven't used it or looked into it.
3. RPC/WS - Can anyone point to specific JAX-RPC or Hessian usage examples?
May be some, I don't know of them.
4. Are there any plans to incorporate CSS styling (will this be available in
Legals)?
This will be in legals, and there was some discussion of including it in
the 3.4 branch, but I'm not sure if that's actually going to happen.
5. A definitive answer regarding using Flash/Actionscript assets embedded
within Laszlo app.
Simple Flash art assets work great in OpenLaszlo. If you look at the
source for the components, you will see that there are lots of examples
of this.
More complex flash assets may or may not work, I believe. Well it's not
that they won't work, but they may not play nicely with OpenLaszlo. The
OpenLaszlo code generally assumes that nobody is doing much directly
with the flash player, except for through OpenLaszlo code. If you break
that assumption, you may see strange bugs, or it may work fine. I
haven't experimented with it a lot. There certainly is nothing to
prevent you from getting at whatever bit of the direct flash API you
need within OpenLaszlo. ActionScript files should be able to be
included with minimal editing via <script src='myclass.as'/>
